Author Biography

NEW!  April, 2008: J.C. Amberlyn Has just signed a contract with Watson-Guptill Publishers for her new book, tentatively entitled: "Drawing Wildlife in the Manga Style"

J.C. is an award-winning artist, author, and photographer who lives and works in Kingman.  Currently a photojournalist for the Kingman Daily Miner, J.C. also has worked as a video game animator, illustrator and painter.  In addition, she has written and illustrated a nationally distributed comic book. J.C. obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Animation at the Art Institute of Phoenix where she won Best Portfolio of the graduating class 2000.

J.C's book, Drawing Wildlife (ISBN 0-8230-2379-6), was published in March 2005 by Watson-Guptill, the premier publisher of fine art books in the United States.  Watson-Guptill describes Drawing Wildlife as "a unique instructional" that will enable artists and naturalists to master their ability to render lifelike depictions of a wide range of wildlife in a variety of still and action poses.

This book reflects J.C.'s lifelong passion for wildlife and art. From an early age, she has roamed the outdoors getting to know wild animals and their ways.  Her constant companions were her drawing pads, pens, and journals.  Her writing flowed naturally as she sought to share her experiences.  Her artistic style emerged through observation of nature and her inspiration by a variety of great artists, animators, and naturalists including Robert Bateman, Rien Poortvliet, Walt Disney, Winslow Homer, Auguste Renoir, Charles Russell, and William D. Berry.

J.C.'s wildlife paintings won "Best in Show" at the Mohave County Fair in 1995 and 2002.   Both paintings reflect the natural beauty of the Kingman Area and her love of this region.  J.C. is very appreciative of family and friends who have supported her on her artistic and literary journey.
